The Blackjack dealer does not have the option of playing split or double down. Like any other casino game, blackjack tables have bet limits all players must follow. These vary depending on whether the game is for high rollers or low stakes gamblers, but usually range between $2-$1,000 for minimum and maximum bets, respectively.

The dealer will give them the card facedown, and the player must wait until all wagers are settled for the dealer to flip the card. A $5 bettor could begin a simple progression by increasing the bet to $10 after two wins in a row. After winning two consecutive hands at the $10 level, the player would increase to $15, and so on. After any loss, the player brings the bet back down to its original level.

The dealer must continue to take cards until the total is 17 or more, at which point the dealer must stand. A blackjack hand beats any other hand, also those with a total value of 21 but with more cards. When all players have finished their actions, either decided to stand or busted, the dealer turns over his hidden hole card. If the dealer has a natural 21 (blackjack) with his two cards, he won’t take any more cards. After the cards have been dealt, the game goes on with each player taking action – in clockwise order starting to dealer’s left. In the long run, following a strategy is the only way to have the best chances of winning. A “side bet” in blackjack is an optional bet made in addition to the standard play. They are not offered at all tables and are more common online than offline.

You’re not just blindly trying to come as close to 21 as possible. By showing you one card, the dealer allows you to make an educated estimate of the eventual outcome and play your cards accordingly. Many dealers will advise players to take insurance if the player has a blackjack. Even though most players don’t have the skill to win consistently, the belief that blackjack can be beaten was enough to spark a boom in the game.
